Join us Thursday, April 6, for a very special event at Portland Running Company. After our usual Thirsty Thursday Run we will be joined at 7 PM by legendary runner and coach Matt Centrowitz. Matt will talk about and sign his new book, Like Father, Like Son: My Story on Running, Coaching, and Parenting. Matt will be joined for this event by his son, Matt, Jr., who you may know as the reigning world indoor AND Olympic champion at 1500m.
Matt Sr. coaches track and XC at American University in Washington, D.C. As an undergraduate at the University of Oregon, he broke Steve Prefontaine’s school record at 1500m (3:36.7) and won a national championship in cross country (1977). He made two U.S. Olympic teams, competing at 1500m in Montreal in 1976. In 1982 he set the American record at 5000m (13:12.91). He won four U.S. Championships in a row at 5000m between 1979 and 1982.
If you’d like to join us for the casual run beforehand, meet at PRC at 6 PM. In lieu of taking the group out to a bar afterwards, we will have free cold beer in the store so you can stick around and take part in this special event.
This event is free and open to the public. No need to RSVP. Matt, Sr., will have copies of his book for sale. He plans to give a short talk before signing books.
