Tip of the Week: Short Foot

A while back, when I was working through some pain on the bottom of my left foot, a chiropractor showed me this simple exercise for strengthening the foot. It's called "short foot," and I do it all the time now. You can do it while you're doing dishes, doing laundry, brushing your teeth—anytime you're barefoot on a clean surface. Shrink the foot, pause for a few seconds, and release, for stronger feet and fewer injuries. Watch this video to see how it's done

Our Newest Acquisition: Welcome Courtney Huck!

I am excited to be the new Accessories Buyer for Portland Running Company! I grew up in the Portland area and I am very excited to have recently moved back here. I attended Oregon State and majored in Human Development. I met Dave and Paula in 2004 when I was 23 years old and in graduate school at Portland State. I was going to school at night and working full time at a school during the day. I figured that if I could find the time to run a marathon with that crazy schedule then I would never again be able to say I am too busy to run!

I showed up at Portland Fit that year and finished the first three-mile run! I started at three miles and ran every weekend at Portland Fit, finishing my first ever running event at Helvetia in sixth place in my age group! I had a great Portland Marathon that year and have loved running ever since. Dave and Paula were awesome coaches, getting me from not running at all to running marathons.

I got my boyfriend (now husband) to join Portland Fit, and he ended up running several events including the Eugene Half, Helvetia and many others with me. Running together became a part of our daily lives; he even got down on one knee and proposed to me during a run together in Portland! We later moved to Eugene for work. We loved running on the trails in Eugene, sometimes jumping onto the track at Hayward Field and participating in many local running events during the years we lived there.

We were excited this year when we had the opportunity to relocate back to Portland to be close to our family and friends here, especially our 11 nieces and nephews! As soon as we moved back I joined Portland Fit again, eight years after my first marathon. I had another fun year of running Helvetia and even PR’d at the Portland Marathon this year!

It has been exciting getting to be in Portland with our families, having the opportunity to work with the team at PRC and getting to talk to runners every day. I look forward to seeing everyone on the trails in Portland.
